Hibernian Kilkenny

A charming historic hotel, the Hibernian is a landmark in Kilkenny, located in the very centre of the town in the shadows of Kilkenny's medieval castle.

The Hibernian Kilkenny is an elegant Victorian hotel with an abundance of character. Situated in the heart of the town, the Hibernian's history has been intertwined with that of Kilkenny since the 19th Century.

The hotel has a huge sense of historic charm, each of its individually designed bedrooms feature period furnishings and sympathetic, relaxing decor. Each bedroom comes equipped with all the usual facilities and comforts, while the Penthouse Suite offers the extra luxuries of an opulent sitting room, king sized bed and Jacuzzi bath.

The Hibernian boasts one of Kilkenny's most popular restaurants; Jacobs Cottage which offers exciting cuisine using only the finest of Irish ingredients, complimented by a fine selection of wines. Imaginative dishes include Roast Half Silverhill Duckling glazed with orange and passion fruit syrup and a strawberry and vodka coating accompanied by a mango and paw paw ragout or Crispy Cubes of Monktail in a light chilli batter with straw potatoes and roasted pepper and rocket salad. While the hotels two bars add contemporary style, with the award winning and atmospheric Hibernian Bar, a popular meeting place for locals and Morrisons Bar, a chic late bar and another popular local nightspot.

Kilkenny is a lively and historic town; once the Medieval Capital of Ireland, Kilkenny is now often referred to as the Festival Capital of Ireland. The Hibernian is right in the centre of it all and is excellently placed for exploring the local sights of Kilkenny Castle and Jerpoint Abbey or golfing at Kilkenny Golf Course or the famous course at Mount Juliet.

Exceptionally large bathroom. Room very hot and decor a little dated

Tim Johnston on Sat Jul 26 2008

Again car parking arrangements need to be better explained in advance; for example we only learned too late about the need to have ticket authenticated at reception BEFORE leaving car park on second day. However, receptionist accepted our explanation and refunded money due to us.

We loved this place also. Only one tiny complaint was that rooms overlooking roadway heard some of the late night partying going on downstairs. but overall, we liked this place very much.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Exceptional standard of food in restaurant

David Henderson on Sun Oct 1 2006

We loved this hotel. It was really beautiful and the restaurant, Jacob's Cottage, was fabulous. Our only regret was that we were only scheduled to stay there one night!
