The Arbutus is something of an institution in Killarney,
situated in the centre of this vibrant town, a boutique hotel, full of
historic character, owned and run by the Buckley family since 1926.
The friendliness, warmth and traditional charm offered
by the Buckley’s set the Arbutus quite apart making you feel more
like one of the family than a hotel guest. A cosy, intimate hotel the
Arbutus is laid out with traditional ‘Celtic Deco’ style with
antique furnishings and interesting little trinkets filling the drawing
room and lining the reception area.
Each of the bedrooms at the Arbutus are very well appointed,
spacious and set with period furnishings and similar, old world charm.
Close attention to detail is kept and standards are very high, while each
room comes with a full range of modern facilities. Also, the Arbutus can
flexibly cater for a range of family groupings.
If it’s haute cuisine your looking for you’ll
have to go elsewhere, the Arbutus specialises in good, old-fashioned,
unpretentious home cooking at its best, with ‘Mom’ Nonnie
Buckley at the stove. Hearty and tasty, the menu uses the very finest
local ingredients and has won the Arbutus a long list of prestigious awards.
Buckley’s Bar, at the Arbutus is an authentic traditional
bar of worn oak panels, turf fires and one of the best pulled pints of
Guinness in the land. The bar is renowned among traditional musicians
who use it as a ‘meeting house’, to share stories, jokes,
a bit of craic and of course the odd tune. Many most celebrated traditional
musicians can be found here, as the fiddle bows fly to the bodhran’s
beat, during impromptu traditional sessions, while welcome visitors listen
on.
The craic, the character, the tradition and the hospitality
of the Arbutus all go to make a unique hotel and an excellent base from
which to explore all Killarney has to offer.
