The Ambassador Hotel is an impressive sight on the skyline
of Cork City, sitting perched on a hilltop overlooking the city centre
in one of the oldest parts of Cork.
A historic building, the Ambassador hotel was built in
1872 and serves as one of the best examples of Victorian architecture
in Cork. The building served Cork as a hospital until it was opened as
a hotel in 1997 after being carefully renovated and restored to its former
glory.
The past life of the Ambassador is clearly evident in
its architecture, with plenty of wide open space in corridors and rooms
filled with a sense of Victorian grace and charm. The comfortable lounge
is set with cosy sofas and a large open fireplace while a resident pianist
comes to occasionally tinkle the ivories making for a relaxing atmosphere.
The bedrooms are hugely spacious and decorated with taste
and old-fashioned charm, while being equipped with all the necessary facilities.
Some rooms have Jacuzzi baths and those that are front facing also feature
balconies on which you can step out and take in the unparalleled views
out across Cork City.
The Seasons Restaurant at the Ambassador has established
itself among Cork’s finest. Set within elegant surroundings, the
restaurant offers a diverse menu drawing from traditional Irish dishes
with some modern twists.
The Ambassador also features a small health spa equipped
with air conditioned gym, sauna, steam room and whirlpool spa.
The Ambassador is located perfectly for exploring Cork
City and its cultural attractions, watching a show at the Everyman Theatre,
the Opera House or visiting the Crawford Art Gallery. There are also a
number of renowned golf courses within easy reach at Fota and the Old
Head at Kinsale.
