Tucked away on a private estate along the famous Ring
of Kerry, Parknasilla has stood for over one hundred years, attracting
such literary luminaries as George Bernard Shaw to its beautiful location.
Set within 300 acres of magnificent gardens, which benefit
from the near sub-tropical climate of the Gulf Stream, the Parknasilla
is a classic hotel built in 1879. A proud stately building, the hotel’s
interiors maintain the old world charm with large log fires greeting you
in the grand reception rooms with bold Victorian features and refined
furnishings. An atmosphere G.B. Shaw would no doubt feel at home, on his
many visits to the hotel.
Up the sweeping staircase and past the stained glass window,
another reminder of a bygone age, the bedrooms of the original house are
full of character, with antique furnishings and tall bay windows sprawling
with views of sea and mountains. The bedrooms in the more modern addition
to Parknasilla are similarly decorated though more adaptable to the needs
of the modern traveller.
The Hotel is renowned for its fine dining in the Pygmalion
Restaurant, delightfully appointed overlooking the bay, with award winning
cuisine, offering the finest of Irish food coupled with excellent service.
As a getaway resort, the Parknasilla has a range of leisure
facilities, with indoor swimming pool, outdoor Canadian hot tub overlooking
the coast, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The hotel spa also offers an
extensive range of treatments and therapies.
However, perhaps the best way to feel rejuvenated is to
take to the great outdoors, and within the 300 acre estate at Parknasilla
there is amble opportunity with the many marked walks and guided walks
along the coast and through woodland. Alternatively you could take to
the grounds by horse back, go clay pigeon shooting or golfing on the private
9 hole course or take to the water for a cruise or a spot of fishing.
